This publication provides authoritative information on specifications for Rubber Hose for Oil Suction and Discharge (OS&D) applications. It was prepared by the Hose Technical Committee and published by the Association for Rubber Products Manufacturers. This specification covers the minimum acceptable requirements for satisfactory performance of 3" – 12" ID cargo Barge, Cargo, Dock,and Single Carcass Submarine hose.

This technical bulletin is a guide for use, maintenance, and inspection of welding hose.

The ARPM, in response to a request from the Society of Automotive Engineers, has established and administered a system of using colored yarns to identify hose manufacturers. Initially, the colored yarn system was applicable to only brake hose manufacturers, but in response to worldwide requests for colored yarn code assignments, the restriction was removed. Most U.S. hose manufacturers have been assigned codes. The use of hose identified by colored yarns incorporated into their structure is more reliable in identifying the manufacturer than hose marked on the exterior surface since the interior colored yarn is more likely to be retained and remain identifiable throughout the entire life of the hose.

Attached for your information is the 2021 catalog of Hose Manufacturer Identification Codes (Colored Yarn Assignments).
Also provided in the Preface is information on the assignment and/or purchase of new codes, the history of the system, and current instructions for its use.
