On Wednesday, March 18, 2020, the President signed into law H.R. 6201, titled the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. The law will take effect on April 1, 2020, and the Department of Labor will begin enforcement on April 18, 2020.
The Act (among other things) requires that private employers with fewer than 500 employees and certain governmental employers offer two weeks of paid sick leave and emergency Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave for certain absences related to COVID-19. Covered employers will be eligible for a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for payment of qualifying wages.
During this webinar, Ice Miller’s Catherine Strauss will explain the Act, steps employers should take to prepare, and how to take advantage of the available tax credits.
